It’s Fire Prevention Week at SSJ!
SSJ and National Fire Prevention Week are a natural fit. Many students at SSJ have parents who are firefighters. This week we learned more about fire prevention and the work of firefighters from a special SSJ family. Gail Caretto, retired SSJ librarian and SSJ alumna, returned as a Guest Reader along with her husband Mark, retired Phoenix Fire Department and SSJ alumna and son Matt, active Phoenix Fire Department and SSJ alumna. The Caretto family brought a book to life in the library and brought gear that students in grades Kinder, first and third were able to try on “for size” and feel the weight of this important equipment of the job. The questions from students showed they were really listening and thinking about this important career.
They also visited students in Pre-K to practice: “Get low and go” and “Stop, drop, and roll”. Remember to cover your face as you roll.
