SSJ Students Walk on Mars!

SSJ students had a rare opportunity to walk on Mars today….a large map of Mars, that is….which was produced by SSJ alum Jonathon Hill (class of 1996).  The students were able to synthesize information about geological formations on Earth and Mars based on over 24,000 images that have been taken by the THEMIS camera orbiting Mars for the past 16 years.  Using their knowledge about latitude and longitude, they were able to locate all of the past landing sites on Mars and even one projected site of a spacecraft that will launch in May of this year.   Now Jonathon will be sharing the map with scientists from around the world at a Mars convention in Houston….so technically, the scientists will be walking in the footsteps of our SSJ students!
