Bethany Vu, SSJ alum, ASU graduate in Biology with a focus on the history of medicine and neuroscience, Flinn scholar, and world traveler came as a Guest Reader to SSJ today. She read “I Feel Better with a Frog in My Throat: History’s Strangest Cures.” She shared with the children that it’s good to be well-rounded. “That means you have a lot of tools in your toolbox.” If you only had a hammer, you couldn’t do very much. She also encouraged them “Don’t be afraid to explore!” If you try new things, even if they are scary, you will learn new things! She shared a bit about her travels, her artwork, and interests.
We took time for student questions. One student asked “Who encouraged you to be a biologist?” and Ms. Vu answered Mrs. Hill here at SSJ, and her high school teachers.
Another student wondered, “Why do you like books?” Ms. Vu responded to learn about things and also to use your imagination. Her favorite fiction books are the Harry Potter books.
What an inspiring young lady!
