Ash Wednesday at SS. Simon & Jude Cathedral School

Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season in the Church.  SSJ students  attended Mass together and received their ashes – our foreheads are marked with ashes to humble our hearts and to remind us that life passes away on Earth. We remember this when we are told “Remember, Man is dust, and unto dust you shall return.”  Ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice.

Looking for something to give up for Lent?

Give up resentment and become more forgiving.
Give up hatred and return good for evil.
Give up complaining and be more grateful.
Give up pessimism and become more hopeful.
Give up worry and become more trusting.
Give up anger and become more patient.
Give up pettiness and become more noble.
Give up gloom and become more joyful.
Give up doubt and turn to God.

May God bless you this Lenten Season.
