SS. Simon & Jude Catholic School

 

TUITION & SCHOLARSHIPS


      Ss. Simon & Jude Parish offers a multiple-child discount to families who are registered members of the parish,     

           attend Mass regularly and demonstrate consistent stewardship by giving of their time, talent and treasure to

           the parish.


      Families who are not parishioners of Ss. Simon & Jude Church, with children enrolled in our school, shall pay the

            out-of-parish per child rate determined annually by the School Board with no multiple child discount.


      Every school family is encouraged to apply for scholarship funds through the Catholic Tuition Organization of    

        the Diocese of Phoenix (CTODP).  Applications are available at time of registration and scholarships are

            based on financial need and/or fund availability.  This fund is administered through the Diocese of Phoenix.

            Applications based on need are reviewed first, then applications based on fund availability will be considered

            after the awards for need have been designated.  If the financial need requests deplete the scholarship fund,

            then there will be no fund availability awards distributed.


    ✝  Fr. Paul Smith Scholarship - $500

            In 1996, this scholarship was established as a lasting tribute to Fr. Smith’s years of service to the Ss. Simon

            & Jude community.  Through his wisdom in bringing the Loreto Sisters from Ireland, the continuity of his

            many years of service and his constant support of our school, we have been able to provide a strong Catholic

            environment in which to educate children.


    ✝  Msgr. Michael O’Grady Scholarship - $500

            On April 23, 2005 this scholarship was established as a farewell gift to Father in celebration of both the

            beautiful spirit in which Father lived his daily life as Rector of our SSJ community and his enormous

            dedication to all children.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is also a member of the parish

            community and strives for excellence in all areas of their life to the best of their God given abilities.


    ✝  SSJ Fathers for Catholic Education Scholarship - one year tuition

            This scholarship was established in 2007 and is sponsored by the SSJ Dad’s Club.   The recipient of this

            scholarship must be a reflective, discerning, active Christian who demonstrates a working knowledge of

            Catholic doctrine, teachings, prayers, practices and sacred scripture.  The child must participate in

            sacraments, liturgy & prayer and make choices in light of Gospel values. 


    ✝  The Brown Family Scholarship - $500

            This scholarship was established in 2007 and is sponsored by the SSJ Dad’s Club.   The recipient of this

            scholarship must be a reflective, discerning, active Christian who demonstrates a working knowledge of

            Catholic doctrine, teachings, prayers, practices and sacred scripture.  The child must participate in

            sacraments, liturgy & prayer and make choices in light of Gospel values. 


    ✝  Thomas McCabe Memorial Scholarship - $500

            Established in 2005 by Alice M. Becker, in memory of her brother, Thomas, this endowed scholarship honors

            the commitment of the McCabe family to values-based education.  They believed strongly in opening your

            heart and soul to the message of a Catholic education and recognized the many sacrifices parents make in

            order to provide their children with this opportunity.


    ✝  Rosina McLaughlin Scholarship - $500

            This endowed scholarship was established in 2004 to honor Rosina’s exemplary volunteer service to our school

            and parish.  Rosina’s work ethic and generosity of spirit continue to serve as fine examples of stewardship to

            our community here at SSJ.  In addition to completing an essay, applicants should provide a one page summary

            of their volunteer service to the school and parish.


    ✝  Mrs. “Q” Ruth McMahon Quinones Scholarship - $500

            This scholarship was established in 2008 by the Quinones family in honor of their Mother.  Mrs. “Q” was a    

            tireless volunteer when her boys, Phil and David, attended SSJ.  Ruth faithfully served our community

            working as a homeroom planner for many years and was involved with the Boy Scouts as well.  The student who

            receives this scholarship should be a good student who demonstrates strong community service skills and is

            involved in scouting.


    ✝  Loreto Sisters Memorial Endowed Scholarship – $500

            Established in 2004, this endowed scholarship serves to honor Sister Clare’s compassion and gentle devotion,

            and acceptance of everyone she came in contact with.


    ✝  Sr. Raphael Quinn Scholarship – one year tuition

            Established in 2004, this scholarship is sponsored by Kathy and Steve Pidgeon.  This scholarship serves to    

            acknowledge the invaluable part parents play in their child’s Catholic education and is awarded to a parent

            within the school community for their active participation and positive, caring spirit.  This scholarship includes

            full tuition for one child for one year plus a voucher to be used for bus, uniform or after school care.  No

            application is needed. This scholarship is sponsored by the Pidgeon family and is awarded to a parent for their

            active participation in our school community.

 

    ✝  Kali M. Carr Memorial Scholarship –  $1,000

            Established in 2006 by Kali’s family, this scholarship is awarded annually to a 6th grade student based on an

            essay on “What Friendship Means to Me?”  Kali was a loyal friend to all her classmates when she was a student

            here at SSJ.  This scholarship serves to remember Kali’s dedication, loyalty and compassion toward all those

            she knew. Only current 6th grade students are eligible to apply. The recipient is chosen by the Carr family

            based on an essay about “What friendship means to me.”

 

    ✝  Martin Rosness Memorial Scholarship - $500 

            Eric Rosness, class of 1992, and Melissa Rosness, class of 1990, have established an endowed scholarship in

            memory of their father Martin H. Rosness.  Marty valued Catholic education and loved the caring environment

            of Ss. Simon and Jude School and the opportunity it gave his children to excel spiritually and educationally.

 

    ✝  Lola Schultz Memorial Scholarship - One year of tuition for an 8th grade student

            Established by her children, Alan Schultz and Elaine Ruben, to honor Lola’s 25 years of volunteer service to

            our school, parish, and diocese.   Lola’s love for children was ever apparent by her commitment and devotion to

            all the children whose lives she touched during her many years of service here at SSJ.  Only current 7th

            grade students are eligible to apply. The recipient is chosen based on volunteerism. Applications are given to

            7th graders in early April with an application by April 30th.

 

    ✝  Lois Weltsch Memorial Scholarship - $500

            This scholarship was established in  2005 by Leo Weltsch in memory of his wife.  The Weltsch family felt

            that SSJ maintained a perfect balance for students to experience spiritual growth and societal responsibility

            while receiving a quality Catholic education.

 

    ✝  Pete Zubieta Memorial Scholarship - $500

            Established in 2004, this endowed scholarship honors Pete’s faith and love of Ss. Simon & Jude School.  The

            Zubieta family believes strongly in the values-based environment of Catholic education.  While attending SSJ

            both Daphne,’92, and Chrissy, ’96, excelled as leaders by demonstrating Catholic values and high academic

            standards.
