Señor Erasmo Luna has been teaching at SSJ since 2005, and has been

teaching for a total of seventeen years. He says, “One of my favorite memories

at SSJ was one day when I was reading a story to kindergarten (I knew the

story very well). I was holding the book up, next to my ear, so that all of the

students could see the pictures. At the back of the class was this little boy,

looking at me with such big eyes that he caught my attention. I went on with the

story. After I finished reading, the little boy asked me, ‘Mr. Luna, where did

you learn to read with your ear?’”

Ms. Leslie Statt, ’95, has been teaching Spanish at Ss. Simon and Jude since

2010. She is an SSJ graduate, and one of eighteen in her family that have

either graduated from or are currently attending the school. Prior to

working at SSJ, she spent a year in Spain, teaching English at an elementary

school. According to Ms. Statt, “Spending a year in Spain, teaching English to

Spanish students, was one of the most educational and rewarding

experiences of my life. Now that I am back in Phoenix, teaching Spanish to

American students, I feel that I have a unique perspective on teaching a

foreign language. I love the Spanish language and culture, and am excited to

be able to share my passion and experiences with my students! I feel truly

blessed to have the opportunity to teach for Sr. Raphael, and with such a

wonderful staff. The community at SSJ has been such an important part of

my life, and I am thrilled to be able to give back to my faith family.”
