✝ Mrs. Gail Caretto,’65, began teaching kindergarten in 1991 in the Washington
School District. During her time there, she completed her Masters in Early
Childhood Education and a School Library Endorsement. In 1999, she moved to
the Madison School District as a librarian. She then achieved her Library Media
National Board Certification in 2004. Her first year as librarian at SSJ was
2010. She says, “I love putting kids and good books together! I also enjoy
assisting teachers and parents. I graduated from SSJ, along with my husband.
All three of our children are also alumni, so this truly feels like coming home. I
love that I get to do my favorite job in my favorite school.”
✝ Ms. Kelly Scott has been teaching in the library at Ss. Simon and Jude since
2010. She is currently working toward her Masters in Information Resources
and Library Science through the University of Arizona. Prior to this, she
attended the University of Notre Dame, and also went to Our Lady of
Perpetual Help in Scottsdale. According to Ms. Scott, “The highlight of being
a librarian is the opportunity to instill a love of reading in children. With
computers, video games and TV, not to mention after-school sports and
activities, kids have very little time in their schedule for picking up a book.
Just being able to open up their minds to the joy of literature is an exciting
prospect and challenge that I look forward to every day. The opportunity to
combine my passion for reading in a Catholic environment has been a dream
come true for me! I’m excited to be a part of this special community and
look forward to getting to know everyone in the SSJ family.”
