SS. Simon & Jude Catholic School

SIXTH GRADE

Mrs. Cynthia Amrhein has been teaching at Ss. Simon and Jude since 2003. She

fondly remembers the opportunity to have her own daughter in her class in

sixth grade - an experience she wishes everyone could have! She says, “I am a

native Arizonan and I attended Catholic schools through grade 12. My children

attended SSJ and because of this, had smooth transitions into both Brophy and

Xavier. They talk of all that SSJ prepared them for as they continue their

studies. I love teaching sixth grade primarily because they grow so much

emotionally and physically. Being a witness to this growth is both challenging and

fulfilling. I focus on preparing the students for the challenges of Junior High.

We are fortunate enough to be able to offer two levels of math. We have our

sixth grade math, as well as an accelerated course for those ready to learn

higher level math concepts. We are buddies with the kindergarten class and it is

the highlight of our week. It is amazing to observe how serious they take their mentoring duties. In the spring we go on a field trip to the Science Center with our buddies. I always look forward to it myself because it’s such a wonderful day!”

Mrs. Linda Fischetti has been teaching at SSJ since 2001. She says, “I began

my teaching career in 1984 as a high school teacher and school campus

minister. During the time my children were small, I was home and stayed

active in this wonderful vocation helping with Confirmation preparation

through youth ministry, assisting in Religious Education, and even spent a few

years teaching adults to use desktop computers. I hold a bachelor’s degree in

Religious Studies and Psychology, and a post-baccalaureate in Elementary

Education. I love teaching at SSJ and can’t imagine being anywhere else. I am

continuously in awe that we get to share our faith on a daily basis, pray

together, and celebrate the Eucharist as a community. I love working in sixth

grade. It is a joy to see them grow so much during the year, in their social

skills as well as their spiritual development. And, of course, the curriculum is the absolute best - World

           Studies!”
