Homework Policy
..... I believe homework is an important aspect of your child's education because it is a valuable aid in helping to make the most of his/her experience in school. I feel it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, preparing students for upcoming lessons, extending and generalizing concepts, teaching responsibility and helping students develop positive study habits.
..... I will assign homework Monday through Thursday nights. Homework should take students no more than one hour to complete each night, not including studying for tests or long-range projects. Spelling tests will be given each Friday.
..... Whenever a student fails to hand in an assignment, a note will be sent home to be signed. If the note is not returned the next day, a call will be made to the parents. If students choose not to do their homework, they also choose to loose certain privileges. Students should make up missed homework the next day with one-grade reduction on the assignment (10 points). If homework is not handed in within three days, a zero is recorded. For every day absent, one day will be given to make up work.
..... I ask that parents make homework a top priority at home. Setting a daily homework time does help, along with lots of encouragement. Please discuss this homework policy with your child.

Discipline Policy
..... I am pleased to welcome your child to 4th grade. I look forward to a very exciting and rewarding school year. I appreciate this opportunity to work as partners with you in the education of your child. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call, send a note, or arrange a meeting with me. I will respond as quickly as possible.
..... Students at Ss. Simon and Jude are expected to demonstrate respect for the rights, property and the educational opportunities of each student and staff member. My primary aim in the 4th grade is to develop personal responsibility. In order to provide guidance in achieving this aim and to provide students with the excellent educational climate they deserve, I have developed a classroom discipline plan for 4th grade.
..... Classroom rules are posted in our room and have been discussed with the students. To encourage students to follow the class rules, I will support appropriate behavior with praise, positive notes and calls, and classroom privileges. However, if a student chooses to break a rule, the following steps will be taken:
Number of Times a Rule

..... If a student receives many warning and conferences during the course of the quarter, parents will be notified and the student may also receive the grade of an N, or needs to improve, on the report card. I have already discussed this plan with your child, but I would appreciate it if you would review the plan with him/her. Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you.
